There’s fun with the idea of a two-thirds majority imposed by various propositions only requiring a majority vote to pass. The Mayor’s idea of a court challenge would apply to the propositions in this election as well as the Proposition 13 property tax law passed in 1978.

Mayor Willie Brown and political satirist Will Durst with Producer Paul Wells were greeted by an enthusiastic audience at Oakland’s College Preparatory School on Wednesday, September 23rd. Thanks to the efforts of Staff and Students, with Richard Mott directing, we caught the event on video with three cameras. The one-hour program was followed by a Q&A. This is the audio version of the Q&A. The video versions are also posted here, and that adds a lot to the experience on the internet. Willie Brown, just returned from Sacramento right before we sat down at the Flow Communications’ studio in San Francisco, and has strong opinions about what needs to be done. His perspective as the former Speaker of the California State Assembly includes an idea of how the legislatures can end the mess. Will Durst and Willie Brown also talk about the movies, the Oscars, and Producer Paul “The Lobster” Wells gets to do his Clint Eastwood impersonation with the quote from Grand Torino, “Get off my lawn!”
